Guided Mine Tours
Glueckauf in the Friedrich-Wilhelm Pit in the Frankonian Forest
The visitor season begins in March/ April. The volunteer guides offer their services on Saturdays,
Sundays and on public holidays until the end of October from 11am until 5pm.
Special arrangements can be made upon request.
A tour lasts for a good hour. The start of each tour depends on the number of visitors, but at least once every hour.
Here are a few more notes about the Friedrich-Wilhelm Pit:
- It is the only visitable mine in the Frankonian Forest National Park
- It informs the visitor firsthand about the oldest way of making a living in the Frankonian Forest - mining
- About 200 metres of the pit can be walked with comfortable shoes and provided protective clothing.
- It is the only pit in the Frankonian Forest that was dug by Alexander von Humbold himself.
