Cloister Banz and the Basilika Vierzehnheiligen
Cultural Monuments of European Standing
The formerly Benedictine Cloister Banz presides over the upper valley of the Main River.
It was planned and built by Leonhard and Johann Dientzenhofer.
A guided tour of the church and cloister is an unforgettable experience. Today Cloister Banz is owned by the Hanns-Seidel Foundation and is used as an educational venue.
Vierzehnheiligen (fourteen saints) is one of the best known pilgrimage destinations in Germany. Every year Vierzehnheiligen is visited by swarms of believers to ask for intercession from the "Fourteen Helpers in Need." Apart from the high significance for pilgrims, the basilica is one of the most beautiful churches of the Baroque and Rococo. The builder Balthasar Neumann has created here a one of a kind structure. In the very centre of the church is the splendid altar of grace with a depiction of the "Fourteen Helpers in Need."
